its a sap bearing tree. in the spring, it over produces sap, and it builds up in the bark.

yeah sometimes in trees when the sap is running it can happen…in some of mine it just ozzes out holes from woodpeckers or bugs

i tried that and the fucking tree basterd, shot it in my eye, i was getting tree sap out of my eye for two weeks, i was lucky though, never trust a tree
